The Fall of the Poocat Barrier

The Poocat Barrier has served me well, but its time has come and gone. With the departure of Poocat, it became a relic of of the past and so, at last, it is with sadness but also hope for the future, that the time has come to tear down the wall which protected a tiny strip of gravel on my patio from the encroachment and desecration of Poocat.

All that remains now is a solemn memorial to those days of strife, made of the very same stones used in the construction of the original Poocat Barrier.

Farewell Poocat. You were stinky.

A Spider

Well I've found other spiders on my patio before, usually the little black jumping house spider kind. This guy isn't very big either, but he's a nice gold color, found him in the corner by the fence while doing some spring patio cleaning. Not easy to get a picture of a small spider in a windy spot that happens to be blowing him in and out of the shade.

Plastic Plant Pots

A couple of weeks ago it was incredibly windy in the Vancouver area. Wind gusts up to 144km/h.

Not only was the wind itself quite loud during the night, but a variety of empty plastic plant pots were blown onto our patio from above. They blew into the corner which is walled off, directly outside my bedroom window, and rattled around and around and around.

We had to get up and go out twice during the night to pick one up to stop the noise, and there was another in the morning. And another sometime later the next day.

Fire

Archive: May 25, 2008

Ok, not technically "on" my patio, but close enough, and I was on my patio when I took the picture.

I thought somebody was barbecuing for a few minutes, until I looked outside and saw the entire street was clouded with smoke.

Guessing that somebody threw a cigarette into the mulch under the trees on the sidewalk.

Some months later, I was walking along the sidewalk on the opposite side of the block, and noticed somebody had done the same thing, only it hadn't grown as big... I went into the nearby falafel shop and told them "somebody is trying to set your bushes on fire". I got a cup of water from them and put it out myself.

Lint

It's been over a year since my last update, but it's such a nice day out it's time to start thinking patio again!

As much as I appreciate having clean dryer vents, having 30 floors times 5 years worth of accumulated dryer lint on my patio I appreciate less so.

I went out yesterday during the vent cleaning and lint was raining down on the entire block like ash. Two police cars were parked outside the building with flashers on. I don't know if it's related, but they were sure curious about the lint storm.

A day later, this is how it looked...

Yummy. Dunno how I'm going to get rid of it, it's caked on everything.
